SFUU Committees

SFUU is governed by its Board of Directors.  Supporting this board are a series of committees which do the work of SFUU.  Getting involved in SFUU is a great way to contribute to the community and increase your sense of fellowship and belonging. 
 
Here is an overview of the committees.  Please reach out to the committee members if you have questions or are interested in getting involved.
 
 
SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE
Contact:  Robert Ludgate
This large and diverse committee works on a variety of project and supports a number of causes.  Examples includ The Gathering Inn and The
 Auburn Interfaith Food Closet.
 
Other activities include the annual Fair Trade sale, the Crop Walk, sponsorship of a Salvation Army giving tree and other local social justice activities.  This group was extremely active in the "No on Measure 8" campaign in 2008.

FINANCE COMMITTEE
Chair: Jim Robison
Simply put, the finance committee manages all tings money.  The current committee members are Jim Robison, Dan Dahl, Karen Johnson and Marsha Von Dossonneck.  The committee includes the Treasurer and Pledge Chair.  Responsibilities include budget development, Sunday collection counting, audits, asset management, 5-year plan creation and the documentation and maintenance of the financial policies and procedures.  In addition to our standing responsibilities, the committee is occasionally asked for financial analysis or 'what if' analysis.  If you are interested in helping with these tasks, please talk to Jim.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
COMMITTEE ON MINISTRY

The Committee on Ministry works to improve all areas of SFUU's congregational live.  The Committee on Ministry (COM) does annual evaluations the overall church's ministry, provides support to the minister's planning efforts, and supports continuing education of the congregation in order to improve its overall depth in congregational ministry.  It is the committees goal to support the congregation's vision and use information gathered from discussions about congregational ministry to better determine decision about permanent ministry. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
WORSHIP COMMITTEE
Worship Committee Chair Maureen BaumanCommittee Chair:  Maureen Barman
The Worship Committee ensures that quality worship services are scheduled and coordinated every Sunday.  They take feedback from the congregation and make adjustments as needed.  Their role also includes coordinating with the Music director in order to ensure that music compliments the services.  The Worship Committee is seeking members who want to help create a quality Sunday experience for the congregation and the SFUU visitors.  Please contact Maureen if you are interested.
 
 
 
 
 
 
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Committee Chair: Heidi Knost
The Religious Education Committee plans curricula for and childcare for all children and youth that attend SFUU.  This important job includes coordinating between volunteer teachers and staff regarding material needs, time and scheduling considerations, problem-solving and troubleshooting the implementation of RE events and activities.  The group also plans special RE events such as parties, social action activities, and the annual children led service.  The RE Committee is always looking for members to help plan, design and instruct curriculum.  There is also a need for an RE Committee Chair.
 
 
 
 
COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE
Chair: Amy Evans
The Communication Committee is responsible for both internal and external communications for SFUU.  These communications include the monthly newsletter, web site content and software, press releases/public relations, and other material about SFUU such a pew brochures.  This committee needs members who can assist with writing press releases, maintain the SFUU website, and working with committees to improve communication about their events.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
SFUU LIBRARY
Lead: Carol Arvay
Our library has a rich collection of books that offer wisdom from all religions, spiritual quests, philosophy, and insight into one's own path.  The library is located in the founders room, right next to Rev. Catherine's office. 

 

There is s self-service check out and return system so that access is available whenever the church is open.  If you need help to located the library, chair Carol Arvay or committee members Linda Olsen and Maggie Atkinson can help you.  Books have either been donated or purchased with monies raised from the book 'sales' in the Fellowship Hall.

 

Committee duties includes processing acquisitions, deciding on new purchases (with input from members), sending reminder notices when books are out for more than a couples months, maintaining the book sale area, and taking unsold books to the Auburn Library for their book sales. 

 

More help is always appreciated for these short-term projects, so please volunteer.  There is a need to organize the shelves according to topics, but until then, take more time to browse or ask a committee member for help. 

 

 
 
 
 
 
 
ADULT PROGRAMS
Lead: Charles Miles
The Adult Programs group works to provide meaningful adult education programs and activities for SFUU members.  The programs are intended to contribute to the emotional, spiritual, and physical health of adults.  This group is looking for members to help organize, lead and participate in adult programs throughout the year.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
Chair:  Marcia Von Dessonneck and Ann Denison
The membership committee is responsible for ensuring visitors are helped through the various stages involved with becoming a congregation members.  The committee also helps ensure that new members feel welcomed and are integrated with our community.  The membership committee's duties include: greeter training and recruiting, new member orientation, circle dinner organization, new member In Gatherings, new member follow up.  If you are passionate about helping SFUU grow, this is the committee for you.  Please see Mary for more information.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS
Lead: Ken Evans
Ken and a group of volunteers maintain, repair and improve the church physical structure and landscape.  Two clean up days are held annually.  If you are interested in helping keep our building clean and in good repair, Ken would love your help.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 GREEN SANCTUARY COMMITTEE
 
Chair: Dan Tajbl
The purpose of the Green Sanctuary is to successfully complete the Green Sanctuary Action Plan for the UU Ministry for Earth.  The group is working toward complete certification by this organization.  Actions initiated by this committee include the installation of low water toilets, the use of compost-able coffee cups, and greater attention to water use in general.  The group also help the congregation by organizing nature trips for the children and coordinating community events to increase awareness on environmental issues.  If you would like to help with this important work, please talk to Dan.
