Candidating Week Details

Schedule of events:

  • Sunday, April 28: AJ conducts two services, 9am and 11am. The 11am service will be followed by a light lunch and Q&A session with AJ. Childcare will be available for the Q&A session.

  • Tuesday, April 30: Coffee with the candidate 9am-11am: Come chat with AJ and search committee members at the home of Jan Torpy over coffee or tea. Please see the eBeacon or the membership directory for Jan’s address in Auburn.

  • Thursday, May 2: Pint with the Pastor, 5:30-8:00p: Join AJ and members of the search committee at Loomis Basin Brewing, 3277 Swetzer Road, Loomis. Weather permitting, we will be seated in the large outdoor patio area.

  • Friday, May 3: Game night with RE families, 6:00pm-8:00pm: RE families are invited to come and visit with AJ and Ada at SFUU

  • Sunday, May 5: Come hear our ministerial candidate, AJ van Tine, preach at 10 am and plan to remain for the congregational meeting afterward.  During this meeting we will vote on the recommendation of our Search Committee to call AJ as our settled minister.  Our by-laws state that proxy votes cannot be used to call or dismiss a minister.  So, you MUST be present (and a member in good standing) if you wish to participate in this vote.  Once the votes are cast, they will be counted before the meeting ends.   90% of the voting members present at this meeting must be in favor in order to call a candidate as a settled minister.  Childcare will be provided.

Questions?   Contact Board President Ian Duncan about the voting procedures (2ianduncan@gmail.com), or Search Committee Secretary, Rick Marshall, about the Candidate or Candidating Week  (sfuusearch@gmail.com)

Note: Specific committee and leadership meetings that will occur during candidating week are not listed her. If you are part of those meetings, you will receive a notification/invite via email.

Please feel free to talk with any of the MSC members: Bill Boyce, Amy Evans, Carol Koons, Rick Marshall, Mary Piette, Geoff Smith and Jennifer Warner.
