Our Interim Minister
Rev. Mike Walker joined SFUU in August of 2017, replacing co-minsters Rev. Lynn Gardner and Rev. Wendy Bartel, who are now serving a congregation in New York state. Rev. Mike will serve as SFUU’s interim minister for two years, as we work through the process of securing a new full time minister to serve us and the greater Auburn Community.
Rev. Mike graduated with a Master of Divinity from Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, May 2010, and was ordained by the First Unitarian Universalist Society of San Francisco the same month. He joins SFUU from a 2-year interim minister position in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He is originally from Georgetown, CA, so he knows our area well and is happy to be moving back to the west coast with his husband and cats.
Rev. Mike’s ministry is committed to serving both the spiritual and social justice needs of a congregation and community, and, specifically, ministering during times of transition. His background includes more than 20 years of volunteer and professional community service (often in leadership roles), two graduate degrees, with experience in parish and community ministries, as well as parish and hospital chaplaincy (CPE) internships. His first career, 15 years of nursing and medical care, has also given him a deep understanding of human suffering and the need for compassion. He is committed to creativity and artistic expression, and to celebrating the beauty of life together!
