Partnering to sponsor a refugee family!

The UU Community of the Mountains (UUCM) has asked SFUU, and other UU congregations, to partner with them in creating a network of generosity and care to welcome and support the Andou-St. Fort family, Haitian refugees that have come to Nevada County through the Humanitarian Parole Program. The family has experienced violence and terrorism and, for their safety, have fled their established and productive lives. The family, parents and their two children (ages 4 and 8), relocated to Nevada County in the fall of 2023, where they are being sponsored by two members of UUCM.  The UUCM sponsors intend to see to the family's needs for a full year while they build a life here in the California foothills.  Financial support will help cover the costs of their ever-evolving needs as they seek employment that draws on their knowledge and skills.  These needs include food, housing, school supplies, trauma therapy for the kids, and activities to keep them growing and engaged in their new community.  In solidarity with UUCM, SFUU took a special collection for the Andou-St. Fort family during their Christmas Eve service. We hope that you will continue to take advantage of this opportunity to give generously throughout the year.
