Path to Membership FAQs
Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about Membership at SFUU:
Why should I become a Member?
It is important to have a safe sanctuary and a community that accepts you for who you are. We believe that being part of a community grounded in authentic connection is vital to the well being of both the individual and the greater community.
Do I need to renounce or give up any other faith tradition, vow, or service?
No. We believe in Pluralism, the capacity and generosity of holding many beliefs and many manifestations of loving kindness. Come as you are and share your beliefs with us!
Are there other specific requirements to be a Member?
Every member is expected to participate by attending our services, events, and leadership teams. We also expect a pledge or tithe, the amount of which is decided by you and the Minister.
What is tithing or pledging?
Tithing is the old Christian tradition of giving to the church. We have Christian roots but tithing or pledging is a practice many other faiths engage in to keep their ministry alive. Most of our operating budget is dependent on the generosity of our members of the community. Pledging represents a deeper commitment to the mission and ministry of the church to the greater community.
Are there benefits to becoming a Member?
Yes! We have a number of social events and our deepest priority is to aid each other in times of crisis. A member also can vote on the vision and leadership priorities during our annual Congregational Meeting. It is a deep part of our commitment to the democratic process, one of our highest spiritual values.
What do I need to become a Member?
The path to Membership represents a commitment to our community and to our faith’s future. If you have been attending services and feel like this church might be a good fit for you, we invite you to contact our Minister to learn more.
