Please help a local family affected by ICE Actions!
If you think that ICE is not operating in Placer County, please think again. The Latino Leadership Council, one of our local Share-the-Plate recipients this year, relayed this story to us on April 30, 2026:
“We do have another family that we could use some help. We helped them last month and with this month’s rent. They could use food and, if possible, help with their utility bills.
Dad and Mom are currently seeking asylum. They both have work permits and have consistently followed all requirements, including checking in with immigration as instructed. During his most recent check-in last month, Dad was unexpectedly detained by ICE and placed into deportation proceedings, despite having a clean record and complying with all rules.
The family used all of their savings to hire an immigration attorney. A judge later ruled that he should be released, recognizing that he had done nothing wrong. However, he was not released immediately. He spent nearly three weeks detained, including several days in a cold cell, often in handcuffs and shackles. During this time, he experienced significant fear and uncertainty about his future.
Late last week, he was finally released and dropped off in Reno, where his wife had to arrange and pay for someone to pick him up. Although he still has his job, he returned home deeply shaken and has been unable to go back to work. The family is now facing serious financial hardship, and their 11-year old child has been especially affected-feeling confused, scared, and saddened by everything that has happened. We have therapy for when and if the family would need it or want it.”
If you are able, we ask that you consider donating to SFUU’s Social Action Fund in support of this Family of 4 (soon to be 5):
Mom (17weeks pregnant)
Dad, newly released from his ICE ordeal
11yr old son
4yr old daughter
Carol Koons, who is volunteering through the Court Watch program with NorCal Resist in Sacromento says that the situation of the dad being detained is exactly what the Court Watch folks at the ICE check ins in Sacramento are seeing. Every couple of days one or two people are randomly detained when they show up for their mandatory check in. It keeps everyone terrified knowing it’s random and happens even when people are following all the rules.
